No Signal on monitor

Hi,

I am a beginner and have a problem. I successfully started up my Pi (a Cana Ultimate Starter Kit with power supply) after I got it using the monitor and keyboard for my MacPro. U wanted to be able to use the MacPro and the Pi at the same time so I bought a used VGA monitor and VGA/HDMI adapter and tried to use it not realizing that the Pi needed a HDMI signal to function. When I connect the keyboard, mouse and HDMI monitor and then the power supply I saw the green and red LED lights lit but the monitor said “No Signal”. Thinking that the files on the chip might have been corrupted by simply turning off the power, I erased the chip and reloaded the files from a backup on my computer. I then went through the startup procedure and once again got the message “No Signal” on my HDMI monitor. Have I damaged the circuit board or am I just missing something?

Please help.
